Dear clients & partners,
Following the 3-month lockdown in France, from the 15th June, European citizens will be allowed to travel more easily within the Schengen borders. This is due to the current weakening of the Covid-19 pandemic and to the progress of recovery plans which have been put into place.
Permitted travel between Normandy and the Channel Islands, is going to take a little longer before restarting.
Although less than 100 kms away from our Normand coastlines, JERSEY, GUERNSEY, SARK & ALDERNEY are not part of the Schengen zone.
During the televised speech last night, the French President announced that although this will take a little longer: « From 01st July, passengers will be able to travel outside of Europe, to countries where the pandemic is under control ».
The Covid 19 situation in the Channel Islands has also improved drastically, with encouraging results as regards to the extremely low number of cases and Jersey is considering opening their borders in early July. We are optimistic that the Guernsey Bailiwick will follow suit later on during the summer.
Manche Iles Express hopes to resume ferry services on 17th July, with a revised ferry schedule.
Further to recent talks between the Jersey Minister for External Relations and the Président of the Conseil Départemental de la Manche, Marc LEFÈVRE, approached the French Home Affairs Minister and drew his attention on the necessity for a swift trade recovery between France and the Channel Islands.
To anticipate the ferry link restart, our teams have put in place health and safety guidelines which will be applicable on-board the vessels:
– Wearing a face mask will be compulsory for all passengers from 11 years of age onwards but also for all our sailing crew.
– Social distancing will be adhered to whenever possible, following the same protocole applied to public transport, airlines or trains.
– Hand-sanitizer will be available before accessing the passenger lounges.
– Hand wash facilities will be accessible on-board.
Similar measures will be applied in all ferry terminals and in the Manche Iles offices.
We thank you in advance for adhering to these important safety/sanitary measures. Together, we can protect ourselves.
